7 Simple Ways to Teach Kids God's Word at Home

You don't need a seminary degree to teach your kids the Bible — you just need a little intention and a lot of grace. Here are seven simple, screen-free ways to plant God's Word in little hearts at home.
1. Color a Bible Story Together
Coloring slows everyone down enough to actually talk. While little hands color, tell the story in your own words — Noah's ark, David and Goliath, the birth of Jesus. Then ask: what did God do here? “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1
2. Memorize One Short Verse a Week
Kids are memorization machines. Pick one short verse, say it together at breakfast every day, and celebrate when they nail it. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” — Psalm 119:105
3. Pray Out Loud at Bedtime
Let them hear you pray — simple, honest prayers. Then let them pray too, even if it's just “thank You for my dog.” Prayer learned young sticks for life.
4. Play with the Word
Word searches, mazes, connect-the-dots — play is how kids learn best. A Bible word search turns “study” into a game they'll ask to play again.
5. Act Out a Story
Grab some stuffed animals and act out Jonah, or march around the living room like the walls of Jericho. Silly is memorable — and memorable is the point.
6. Make a “God Did It” List
Keep a running list on the fridge of prayers God answered and good things He did. Kids who see God's faithfulness written down learn to expect it. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16
7. Celebrate Finishing
When they finish something — a verse, a page, a week of devotions — make a big deal of it. A certificate, a cheer, a happy dance. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” — Philippians 4:13
