Make Everything Bigger on Your Phone

If you've ever held your phone at arm's length and squinted, this one's for you. Your phone has wonderful settings that make text bigger, bolder, and easier to read — they're just buried in the menus where nobody thinks to look. Let's dig them out together.

On iPhone — Make the text bigger

  1. Open Settings (the gray gear icon).
  2. Tap Display & Brightness.
  3. Tap Text Size.
  4. You'll see a slider with sample text. Drag the slider to the right — the text grows as you drag. Pick whatever size feels comfortable.

Make the text bold (easier on tired eyes):

  1. Go back to Display & Brightness.
  2. Turn on Bold Text (tap the switch so it turns green).
  3. Your phone will restart for a moment — that's normal. Everything comes back bolder and clearer.

Make EVERYTHING bigger (Display Zoom):

  1. In Display & Brightness, tap Display Zoom.
  2. Choose Larger, then tap Done in the top right.
  3. Icons, buttons, keyboards — the whole screen gets bigger. If it ever feels too big, come back and choose Standard.

On Android (Samsung, Motorola, etc. — steps are very similar) — Make the text bigger

  1. Open Settings (the gear icon).
  2. Tap Display.
  3. Tap Font size (on some phones it's under Display, then Font size and style).
  4. Drag the slider to the right until the sample text looks right.

Make everything bigger:

  1. In Settings, then Display, look for Screen zoom or Display size.
  2. Drag that slider up too. This enlarges icons and buttons along with the text.

Make the text bold (most Android phones):

  1. In Display settings, look for Font style or a Bold toggle and turn it on.

The Magnifier — your secret weapon

Both phones have a built-in magnifying glass for reading menus, medicine bottles, and tiny print. iPhone: Open Settings, then Accessibility, then Magnifier and turn it on. Now triple-click the side button anytime, and your camera becomes a magnifier with a zoom slider. Android: Open Settings, then Accessibility, then Magnification and turn it on. Then tap the little person icon at the bottom of your screen to zoom in anywhere.

Make the keyboard easier to hit

Typos usually mean the keys are just too small, not that you're doing anything wrong. iPhone: Display Zoom (above) makes the keyboard bigger automatically. You can also turn the phone sideways — the keyboard stretches wide, and the keys get much easier to tap. Android: Open any app where you type, tap the gear icon on the keyboard, choose Preferences, and raise the Keyboard height a notch or two.

One more tip — brightness matters as much as size

If text still looks washed out, turn up your brightness. Swipe down from the top-right corner (iPhone) or top of the screen (Android) and drag the sun icon slider up. Reading in sunlight? Full brightness is your friend.

There's no prize for squinting. These settings exist because phone makers know eyes change over the years — using them isn't giving in, it's just smart. Set it once, and every text, email, and Bible verse gets easier from now on.

If this helped you, share it with a friend who's still holding their phone at arm's length.
