Read Your Bible on Your Phone: A Simple Start

Your phone can carry the entire Bible with you — to the doctor's office, the porch swing, anywhere. There's a wonderful free app called YouVersion (it goes by "Bible" in the app store, with a brown icon that says "Holy Bible"). Millions of people use it, and it's simpler than you think. Let's get you set up.

Step 1: Install the app

  1. On your iPhone, open the App Store (blue icon with a white "A"). On Android, open the Play Store (colorful triangle icon).
  2. Tap the search bar at the top and type YouVersion Bible.
  3. Look for the one with the brown icon that says Holy Bible — that's the right one.
  4. Tap Get (iPhone) or Install (Android). It may ask for your fingerprint or password — that's normal.
  5. When it's done, tap Open.

Step 2: Pick the King James Version

The app opens to a modern translation by default, but you can switch to the King James in seconds:

  1. Tap the Bible tab at the bottom (it looks like an open book).
  2. At the top of the screen, you'll see the current translation name (something like "NIV" or "ESV"). Tap it.
  3. A list of translations appears. Scroll or type KJV in the search box.
  4. Tap King James Version (KJV). Now every verse you read will be in the King James you know and love.

Step 3: Make the text bigger

If the words look small, don't squint — just make them bigger:

  1. While reading any passage, tap the "Aa" button (usually at the top of the screen).
  2. You'll see a slider or + and − buttons for text size.
  3. Tap + a few times until the words are comfortable. Your eyes will thank you.

Step 4: Try the audio Bible — just press play and listen

This is the feature people love most. The app can read the Bible to you, like an old-time radio broadcast:

  1. Open any chapter (try Psalm 23 — type it in the search box at the top).
  2. Look for the speaker icon or play button near the top of the screen.
  3. Tap it. A voice begins reading — in the KJV, if that's what you selected.
  4. You can pause it anytime, just like a voicemail.

Imagine: your morning coffee, the Word of God read aloud, no glasses needed. "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" (Psalm 119:105) — and now that lamp fits in your pocket.

A few more things worth knowing

Bookmark a verse: Press and hold any verse, then tap Bookmark. It saves it, like folding down the corner of a page. Verse of the Day: The app shows one every morning on its home screen — a lovely way to start the day. It's free. The whole thing. No charges, no catches.

Take it one step at a time. Install it today, find the KJV, and try listening to a Psalm. God's Word has a way of meeting us right where we are — even on a little glowing screen.

If this helped you, share it with someone who'd love the Bible in their pocket too.
