The Words of Jesus: 7 Teachings That Still Change Lives

Two thousand years later, nobody's words have changed more lives than the words of Jesus. Parables, promises, straight-from-the-mountain commands — every one of them still speaks. Here are seven teachings from the King James Bible that can change your life this week.

1. The Upside-Down Blessing — Matthew 5:3

“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus gave the kingdom to the empty-handed. You don't have to get it all together before you come to God — having it all together is the one thing that keeps people away from Him. Blessing starts where pretending stops.

2. Salt and Light — Matthew 5:16

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

You're already salt and light — that's your identity, not your goal. A pinch of salt changes the whole pot. This week, do one quiet good deed and tell no one. Small salt. Quiet light. God's glory.

3. Put Down the Worry — Matthew 6:33

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Worry has never added a single hour to anyone's life. Get the first thing first — God's rule, God's rightness — and the rest gets handled by a Father who already knows what you need.

4. Build on the Rock — Matthew 7:24

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:”

Both builders heard the same sermon. The difference wasn't information — it was obedience. Storms hit every house; only the one built on hearing and doing stands. Pick one saying of Jesus and actually do it this week.

5. The Father Who Ran — Luke 15:20

“But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”

The prodigal planned a servant's speech. He didn't plan for a father who runs. If shame has kept you away from God, hear this: He's already running toward you. Come home.

6. The Way Home — John 14:6

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

We want a map; Jesus gives us Himself. You don't find the path and then find Jesus at the end of it. You find Jesus, and He becomes the path.

7. Stay Connected — John 15:5

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

A branch doesn't strain to produce grapes — it just stays attached. Fruit is the result of connection, not exhaustion. Stop trying harder. Start abiding.
